AMD and Nvidia cannot keep up with the adjustments in free trade with their price reductions. Shops sometimes significantly undercut the recommended prices.

AMD and Nvidia cannot keep the high price recommendations for their current generation of graphics cards. Both manufacturers have reduced prices in their own online stores, but are still lagging behind other retailers – those who buy in retail pay less.

Nvidia is the second adjustment since November 2022: The Founders Edition of the GeForce RTX 4090 now officially costs 1769 euros, while the Founders Edition of the GeForce RTX 4080 costs 1329 euros. Compared to the original price recommendations, this corresponds to reductions of around nine percent each.

Nvidia has not made any adjustments in the USA. At least the more recent round of discounts can also be explained by an exchange rate that is favorable for Europeans: In the past few weeks, the euro has risen from 1.06 to 1.10 US dollars. However, Nvidia would hardly pass the price reductions on to customers if demand were high.

Meanwhile, Nvidia does not offer its own version of the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti; the Founders Edition of the GeForce RTX 4070 is currently at 659 euros.

AMD charges 1082 euros for the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and 920 euros for the Radeon RX 7900 XT. In general, the store operator Digital River constantly adjusts the prices for AMD to the exchange rate. In the case of the Radeon RX 7900 XT, however, there is an explicit discount on top.

Avoid manufacturer stores

With all current graphics cards, interested parties are still better advised to buy from other retailers. The GeForce RTX 4070 (from 599 €) or GeForce RTX 4080 (from 1199 €), for example, you can get even cheaper.

The Radeon RX 7900 XT is currently the cheapest in the form of XFX’ custom design (from €839) with a large cooler. It has a high rasterizer graphics performance and a lavish memory expansion with 20 GB but lags behind Nvidia’s competition in terms of efficiency and ray tracing performance. With the XTX version, Powercolor is at the forefront in terms of price (from €999)
